Firefighter, Civilian Injured in Valley Vista Blaze; SoCal Edison Warns of Possible Power Shutoffs
A firefighter and a civilian were injured Wednesday afternoon after an eight-acre fire erupted in Valley Vista, an unincorporated community just south of San Jacinto. CAL FIRE says the blaze broke out shortly before noon in a field surrounded by residential homes, damaging multiple sheds before crews gained control.
Officials report the fire is now 50 percent contained. One firefighter sent an emergency call stating he was trapped by flames on all sides. Fellow CAL FIRE members quickly responded, and he was rescued after suffering from smoke inhalation. The civilian sustained minor burns.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
In a related wildfire safety measure, Southern California Edison is alerting residents about the potential for Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) across the region. These outages occur when utilities cut power during dangerous fire weather, such as dry vegetation, low humidity, or high winds, to reduce the risk of wildfire ignition.
“So PSPS outages do help us protect the public when there is an elevated risk,” a SoCal Edison representative explained, noting that safety is their top priority.
Residents are encouraged to prepare for possible power shutoffs, especially during periods of elevated wildfire danger.
