Three Hikers Rescued After Heat-Related Injuries Near Thermal

A helicopter was needed in Thermal yesterday to rescue three hikers suffering from heat-related ailments, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The rescue operation took place just before 2 p.m. at Painted Canyon Trail, located off Painted Canyon Road. Emergency crews airlifted all three hikers from the remote location, with one requiring hospital treatment. The injured hiker was transported by ambulance to a local hospital after being evacuated from the trail area. The other two hikers declined medical treatment at the scene.

The incident highlights the increased risk of heat-related illnesses during periods of extreme temperatures. Health officials note that such conditions pose particular dangers for individuals who lack adequate hydration or cooling measures.

To prevent heat-related emergencies, health experts recommend drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day, remaining in air-conditioned environments when possible, and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. They also advise checking on family members and neighbors during extreme heat events.

Officials stress that vehicles can become lethal within minutes during high temperatures, warning against leaving children or pets unattended in parked cars under any circumstances.
