Van Nuys Man Admits to Daily Train Horn Blasts, Neighbors Demand Action

Residents along the 6600 block of Peach Street in Van Nuys say they’ve been living with near-daily blasts from train horns and loud alarms for months, and they’ve had enough.

Gary Boyadzhian, 50, admits he’s the one responsible, setting off three train horns and his home alarm almost every day. He says he knows it’s unfair to his neighbors but claims it’s the only way he can get the attention of the LAPD’s Van Nuys division.

“I know it’s not fair to my neighbors, absolutely,” Boyadzhian told Eyewitness News. “If I were in their shoes, I would complain too. It is loud. It is disturbing. I need help… I don’t know how else to cry out for it.”

One neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, said police often arrive too late to catch the noise in progress. “It makes the windows rumble,” she said. “By the time the police get here 40 minutes later… they can’t do anything.”

Neighbors have posted signs encouraging others to call police when the horns sound, but LAPD says officers must hear the noise themselves to issue a citation. The department says it is in talks with the city attorney about possible solutions.

The neighborhood is within Los Angeles City Councilmember Imelda Padilla’s district, but her office says no complaints have been received.
