White House Orders Review of Smithsonian Museum Exhibits

The White House has directed the Smithsonian Institution to conduct a comprehensive review of its museum exhibits to ensure they align with President Donald Trump's vision, according to a letter sent to museum leadership.

The review will examine online content, exhibition planning, grant usage, and exhibit messaging across the Smithsonian's museums. Eight institutions have been specifically targeted in the initial phase, including the National Museum of American History and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Under the directive, museum officials have 30 days to provide detailed information about their current exhibits and plans for commemorating the United States' 250th anniversary in 2026. Museums must then implement any required changes within 120 days of receiving the review findings.

The White House letter indicates that additional Smithsonian museums will undergo similar reviews in subsequent phases. The Smithsonian operates 21 museums, most located in Washington, D.C., along with the National Zoo and various research centers.
