MECCA (CNS) - The first elementary school built to include residents
in the North Shore community will open later this month in Mecca.

North Shore Elementary, located at 96-100 70th Ave., will open for the
first day of school on Aug. 20. The 60,000-square-foot, pre-kindergarten
through sixth grade facility was described by district officials as a
milestone.

``This campus will serve as a place of learning, growth and
opportunity for up to 500 students -- right in their own neighborhood,''
Coachella Valley Unified School District spokeswoman Maria Castillo said.
``It's more than a building; it's a symbol of hope, perseverance and our
district's commitment to ensuring every child has access to a high-quality
education close to home.''

``This school represents a promise fulfilled -- something the
community has dreamed of for years,'' Castillo added. ``Families have expressed
joy, pride and gratitude that their children will now have a school right here
in North Shore.''

The site held a groundbreaking ceremony in October 2022.
