Palm Springs Animal Shelter Hosts Clear the Shelters Weekend with Free Adoptions

The Palm Springs Animal Shelter is preparing for a busy weekend as it kicks off its annual Clear the Shelters event, offering free adoptions for hundreds of animals in need of a home. The event runs Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with adoption fees covered by generous community sponsors.

With the shelter currently over capacity, staff and volunteers are eager to find homes for more than 200 cats and dogs. Potential adopters can take part in shaded, outdoor meet-and-greet sessions — perfect for introducing their current pets to a possible new furry family member.

Visitors will be greeted with a range of animals, including Rocky, a nine-month-old Labrador mix whose family had to surrender him due to housing restrictions; a calm, three-year-old female dog left at the shelter unexpectedly; and Theo, a one-year-old who loves kids but needs a home without small pets.

Adopters will also receive swag bags filled with treats, toys, and food, plus tickets to The Living Desert Zoo. The event is designed to make the adoption process stress-free and welcoming for both pets and people.

For those looking to support the shelter in another way, an adults-only pool party benefiting the Palm Springs Animal Shelter will be held Saturday night from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., featuring music, drinks, and dancing. Pets are not allowed at the party, but proceeds will directly benefit the shelter’s efforts.
