Man Dies After Medical Emergency in Riverside County Custody

A 36-year-old Menifee man died Sunday following a medical emergency while in custody at the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta.

Daryl Flood suffered a medical emergency at 3:22 a.m. in a booking area cell, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Flood was transported to a local hospital, where medical staff performed life-saving measures. However, his condition continued to decline and he was pronounced dead by attending physicians.

The Sheriff's Office Corrections Central Investigations unit has taken over the investigation. Flood's family has been notified of his death.
