Elon Musk Denies Report He’s Dropping Plans for America Party
Elon Musk is pushing back against reports that he has dropped plans to form a new political party after tensions with President Donald Trump over domestic policy.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk had told associates he feared launching the so-called America Party would strain his relationship with Vice President JD Vance, a potential 2028 presidential candidate. But Musk quickly dismissed the reporting on his social media platform X, writing, “Nothing @WSJ says should ever be thought of as true.”
Despite his denial, there has been little movement toward building an official political party. Musk has discussed the concept with figures such as Andrew Yang and right-wing thinker Curtis Yarvin, but no paperwork has been filed with the Federal Elections Commission.
Records show that in June, as his feud with Trump was escalating, Musk donated $5 million each to three Republican groups: MAGA Inc., the Senate Leadership Fund, and the Congressional Leadership Fund. A source told CNN last month that the America Party was still being “figured out,” though Musk’s own comments and social media posts suggest little action has been taken.
In recent weeks, Musk’s online presence has focused largely on his xAI Grok system, with far fewer political statements compared to earlier in the summer. Notably, he even appeared to support Trump in a recent post, responding with emojis to a photo of Trump wearing a “4 More Years” hat alongside Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Emmanuel Macron.
JD Vance, who has been floated as a possible Musk ally, dismissed the Journal’s claims. “I’ve never talked with Elon Musk, or frankly any other donor about 2028,” Vance said during a Fox News interview.
While Musk’s political future remains uncertain, both allies and critics note his close alignment with Republican causes suggests he will remain an influential player in upcoming elections.
