Trump Plans to Patrol Washington, DC Streets With Law Enforcement and Military
President Donald Trump announced that he plans to join law enforcement and military personnel on the streets of Washington, DC, Thursday night.
“I’m going to be going out tonight, I think, with the police, and with the military, of course,” Trump told radio host Todd Starnes in an interview Thursday morning. A senior White House official later confirmed that the details of the evening were still being finalized.
The move follows Trump’s recent order for the federal government to take control of the city’s police department, a decision that has sparked protests and raised tensions in the nation’s capital.
Just one day earlier, Vice President JD Vance held a lunchtime event at Union Station’s Shake Shack to thank National Guard members deployed in the city. He was joined by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller. Protesters, however, attempted to disrupt the event, chanting “shame,” “this is our city,” and “we want the military out of our streets.”
Trump’s planned appearance is expected to draw significant attention as debate continues over the federal government’s expanded control in Washington, DC, and the visible presence of military forces alongside police.
