TSA’s Top Dog Contest Down to Two Labs: Alex vs. Steeler

The Transportation Security Administration’s annual search for its top dog has come down to two lovable Labrador Retrievers—Alex from Denver International Airport and Steeler from Pittsburgh International Airport.

Both dogs have gained recognition for their important work keeping travelers and staff safe, but only one will land on the cover of TSA’s 2026 canine calendar. Voting is currently open on the TSA’s website, with the winner set to be announced on Tuesday, which also happens to be National Dog Day.

The two contenders bring very different personalities to the competition. According to the agency, Alex is the healthier eater, enjoying his green beans. Steeler, true to his Steel City roots, has a soft spot for jumbo hot dogs from 7-Eleven.

TSA officials say the contest is not just about picking a calendar cover star but also about spotlighting the critical work service dogs provide at airports nationwide. Both Alex and Steeler have been described as friendly, hardworking, and dedicated to their jobs.

While only one dog can win the title, many travelers and fans agree—it’s hard to choose between two very good boys.
