Cities of Indio, La Quinta to Host 9/11 Ceremonies
INDIO (CNS) - Indio and La Quinta officials will hold a remembrance
next month to honor the lives lost during the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 and
other commemorative events, it was announced today.
In Indio, a remembrance and a groundbreaking ceremony for a 9/11
Memorial will be held Sept. 11 at 9 a.m. at Miles Avenue Park, at 82540 Miles
Ave.
``This year's ceremony is made even more meaningful as we break ground
on Indio's 9/11 Memorial, a place where our community can come together to
remember, to learn and to honor the bravery of those who served and
sacrificed,'' Mayor Glenn Miller said in a statement. ``We hope it will inspire
future generations to carry forward the values of resilience and solidarity.''
The ceremony, which will take place after the remembrance, will
feature a 12-foot-tall steel artifact from the former World Trade Center in New
York that attendees will be able to touch.
Officials said the memorial project aimed to ``inspire a sense of
collective humanity and community.''
In La Quinta, a 9/11 candlelight vigil will be held at 7 p.m. that day
at Civic Center Campus, at 78495 Calle Tampico.
