Animal Samaritans Brings Free Spay and Neuter Program to Palm Desert

Animal Samaritans has expanded its free spay and neuter program to Palm Desert residents, making it the third incoporated city to receive the service this year.

Palm Desert residents can pick up vouchers at the Palm Desert Library while supplies last. The vouchers cover the full cost of spay or neuter surgery, post-operative pain medication, and an electronic collar. Proof of Palm Desert residency and proof of income are required. Vouchers are distributed first-come, first-served and cannot be reserved in advance.

The Palm Desert Library is open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Animal Samaritans allocated $100,000 this year for free spay and neuter surgeries across the Coachella Valley. The program launched in Cathedral City in June, moved to Desert Hot Springs in July, and expanded to unincorporated areas of the Coachella Valley in August before reaching Palm Desert.

According to Animal Samaritans CEO Tom Snyder, the organization has focused on reducing pet overpopulation since 1978. The city-by-city approach aims to provide spay and neuter access to all Coachella Valley communities.
