Flooding Causes Road Closures and Hazards Across Coachella Valley
Flooding has created hazardous driving conditions across the Coachella Valley, with portions of Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and Cathedral City experiencing significant impacts.
NBC Palm Springs’ Brett Rosen reported live from the intersection of Date Palm Drive and Ramon Road in Cathedral City, where water remained pooled on the streets late Monday evening. Warning signs were posted to alert drivers to slow down when passing through the flooded area.
Earlier, Dinah Shore Drive had been blocked by storm runoff, but city crews managed to reopen it after clearing the roadway. Still, several closures remain in effect. Both eastbound and westbound lanes of Dinah Shore Drive between Cathedral Canyon and Via De Anza are closed. On Date Palm Drive at Los Gatos Road, two southbound lanes are closed, leaving just one lane open for drivers.
In addition to flooding, Cathedral City crews responded to reports of fallen trees in Ocotillo Park, as well as debris scattered across roads and sidewalks. City officials say crews will continue working overnight to pump out water, clear hazards, and restore safe travel conditions.
Motorists are urged to use caution and heed detour signs when traveling through impacted areas, as water levels and road conditions remain unstable in some locations.
