Picket Fire in Napa Grows to 6,500 Acres, Threatens Vineyards
Firefighters are racing to contain the Picket Fire in Napa County as it continues to spread, threatening vineyards and local communities.
CAL FIRE reports that more than 1,000 emergency personnel are now on the scene, working around the clock to contain the blaze. Crews are using bulldozers, engines, water tenders, and helicopters to battle the flames on multiple fronts.
The fire, which has now scorched more than 6,500 acres, is burning in the heart of Napa’s wine country, raising concerns about potential damage to the region’s world-renowned vineyards. Several wineries are reportedly under threat as shifting winds push the fire closer to cultivated land.
Officials say containment efforts are focused on building defensive lines and protecting critical infrastructure, but conditions remain challenging due to dry brush and steep terrain.
Residents in some areas have been asked to stay alert for possible evacuation orders. No structures have been confirmed lost at this time, but fire officials warn that the situation could change quickly.
This fire is one of several large wildfires burning across California this week, as hot and dry conditions fuel an intense late-summer fire season.
