Police Respond to Active Shooter at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota (WCCO/CNN Newsource) — Police and multiple agencies responded to an active shooter situation at Annunciation Catholic School in south Minneapolis Wednesday morning. Authorities confirmed the shooter is contained and stressed there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The incident unfolded near West 54th Street between Harriet and Garfield avenues, where Annunciation Catholic School is connected to a church. According to the school’s schedule, an all-school mass had been held earlier in the morning.

Minneapolis police advised residents to avoid the area of West 54th Street between Lyndale and Nicollet avenues as first responders worked the scene. Families of students were directed to a reunification area at Annunciation School, located at 525 West 54th Street.

Law enforcement response included Minneapolis police, the Minnesota State Patrol, and the FBI. Authorities have not released information on the number of victims.

Governor Tim Walz confirmed he had been briefed on the situation, saying, “I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence.”
