Residents of the Healing Sands Mobile Home and RV Park, located just outside Desert Hot Springs, are raising red flags about what they describe as deteriorating and unsafe living conditions. Multiple members of the community have come forward to share their experiences — from rat infestations to frequent water outages — all pointing to a pattern of neglect. This story first came to light when one resident contacted NBC Palm Springs, reporting that they had been without running water for several days. Reporter Brett Rosen visited the park to investigate further and found a troubling pattern. Other residents echoed the same concerns: overflowing dumpsters, broken gates, and rodent issues that have yet to be addressed.

Many residents expressed fears of speaking on camera, worried about potential retaliation. Although the community has a Desert Hot Springs address, city officials were quick to clarify that Healing Sands falls under unincorporated Riverside County, meaning the city has no direct authority. Oversight of mobile home parks in California is handled by the state’s Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD), specifically through its Division of Codes and Standards.

Attempts to reach both the park’s management and the HCD for comment were unsuccessful. Rosen reported that his calls to the state agency went to voicemail, and the on-site mobile home park office offered no answers.

However, there may be some hope for residents. Rosen connected with Riverside County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez’s office. A spokesperson informed Rosen that Supervisor Perez would look into the situation after the holiday weekend.
