The Place To Be Hosts Grand Opening In Downtown Indio

Downtown Indio has a new destination drawing crowds and boosting local entrepreneurship. The Place, also nicknamed “the place to be,” opened its doors with more than 100 brands offering everything from jewelry and handmade crafts to churros and even Swedish electronics.

Co-owner Nicole Massoth says the project is more than just a marketplace—it’s a vision for the city’s future. “This is a part of the revitalization of downtown Indio. The intention is to first and foremost contribute to development versus displacement,” she explained.

For small business owners like Sarahi Gutierrez, who started her brand online, The Place offers an opportunity to grow. “When I was presented the business structure, I thought it was a great idea,” Gutierrez said. “I knew I wanted to be part of something like this.”

Other entrepreneurs, like sales associate Samael Orozco, are bringing international flair to the space. “You get a group, a company that focuses on creativity and making sure you express yourself through their gear,” he said of the Swedish brand he represents.

Visitors say the energy is contagious, noting the creativity and youthfulness driving the marketplace. “It’s exciting to see things created by younger people in the East Valley. They’re really working on it,” one attendee shared.

With its focus on connection, creativity, and community, The Place is quickly living up to its name as downtown Indio’s newest hub.
