Community Rallies to Support Family After Crash Destroys Taco Business

A tragic accident has left a local family struggling to recover both physically and financially after their taco trailer was destroyed in a crash.

On Thursday, August 21, a white Toyota Corolla ran a stop sign at the intersection of 52nd Avenue and Cajon Street, colliding with a utility pole before striking the pickup truck of Fernando Solorzano. The impact pushed Solorzano’s truck more than 15 feet into the family’s taco trailer.

The driver of the Corolla later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Solorzano and his wife, Lourdes Tamayo, were both knocked unconscious and continue to experience lingering pain. Tamayo recalls trying to stand after the collision, only to fall as she misjudged the tilted trailer floor.

Beyond the physical injuries, the accident has brought significant financial challenges. The family’s taco truck, their primary source of income, was heavily damaged and remains out of commission. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover medical expenses and support efforts to rebuild their business.

Despite the setbacks, Solorzano says the family’s dream is only on pause, not over. For now, he plans to continue the business on a smaller scale while working to overcome mounting expenses. The family expresses deep gratitude for the community’s support during this difficult time.

Those wishing to help can visit the GoFundMe page set up for the Solorzano family.
