Costco Ends Grace Period for Executive Member Early Shopping Hours
Costco officially began enforcing its Executive Member early shopping policy today, ending a grace period that had been in place since the policy's introduction in June.
The warehouse retailer's policy reserves the first hour of weekday operations—9 a.m. to 10 a.m.—exclusively for Executive Members. Non-executive members must wait until 10 a.m. to enter stores during weekdays.
Policy Background
Costco introduced the early shopping hours in June but had not strictly enforced the restriction during an initial grace period. The company confirmed that enforcement began Monday, with stores now checking membership levels before allowing early entry.
Customer Response
The policy has drawn criticism from some customers who view it as preferential treatment based on membership fees. Critics argue the move creates a two-tiered system that disadvantages standard members.
The early shopping window applies only to weekday mornings. Weekend hours and weekday hours after 10 a.m. remain available to all membership levels.
