Jobs Report, Fed Nominee, and NFL Kickoff Highlight Business Week Ahead
The week ahead brings a mix of major economic data, corporate earnings, and the start of the NFL season, setting the stage for markets after the Labor Day holiday.
Markets will be closed on Monday for Labor Day. On Tuesday, investors will focus on the release of the August manufacturing PMI, a key indicator of the health of the manufacturing sector.
Wednesday brings another important read on the labor market with the release of the July JOLTS report, which tracks job openings, hires, and separations. Corporate earnings are also in the spotlight, with Macy’s, Salesforce, and Dollar Tree scheduled to report. In addition, the Federal Reserve will release its latest Beige Book, a broad measure of economic conditions across the country.
On Thursday, ADP will release its monthly private sector jobs report. The Senate Banking Committee is also set to hold a hearing to review the nomination of Stephen Mirren as a new Federal Reserve governor.
Thursday night, football returns as the Philadelphia Eagles, fresh off their Super Bowl win, face the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL season opener.
Friday rounds out the week with the release of the highly anticipated monthly jobs report from the U.S. Labor Department. Last month’s numbers, along with revisions to previous months, played a role in the president’s decision to fire the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, adding extra attention to this month’s results.
