Judge Blocks Deportation of Guatemalan Children in Texas
A federal judge in Washington, D.C., has halted the deportation of a group of Guatemalan children who were being flown out of Texas in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to the Immigration Defenders Law Center, the children had not yet been granted their day in court and many feared returning to Guatemala. The order came just moments after the children were placed on planes, temporarily preventing the flights from taking off.
The U.S. government argued that the deportations were meant to reunite the minors with relatives in their home country. However, attorneys representing the children insist that immigration officials must still follow proper legal process before removals can take place.
For now, the children will remain in the United States while the case proceeds through the courts. The ruling marks the latest development in an ongoing legal and political battle over the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement policies, which continue to face significant scrutiny and challenges.
