Chicago Braces for Possible Federal Troop Deployment After Trump’s Comments

Chicago officials are preparing for the possibility that President Donald Trump will send federal troops to the city, following recent comments about cracking down on crime.

Last month, the administration called for federal forces to take over operations in Washington, D.C. Now, according to sources, a similar move could soon take place in Chicago, potentially beginning later this week.

“We will continue to go after the worst of the worst across the country, like President Trump has told us to do, focusing on those perpetuating murder, rape, and drug trafficking,” one federal official said.

Trump has frequently criticized Chicago’s crime levels, and reports suggest a federal immigration enforcement operation is under consideration for the city. However, local leaders say they have not been contacted about such plans.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has already signed an executive order directing city police not to collaborate with federal agents. Johnson called the potential deployment “an invasion with U.S. troops.”

Residents of Chicago are divided. Some say more needs to be done to address crime, while others argue federal forces are not the solution. “We don’t need a bandaid to cover up the problem. What we need is a solution,” one resident said. Another added, “The residents deserve more. They deserve to feel safe. The crime should not take over the city.”

The administration has not yet confirmed when or if the deployment will occur.
