NBC Palm Springs’ Tiani Jadulang Teaches Middle Schoolers Journalism Basics
NBC Palm Springs reporter Tiani Jadulang spent the day giving back to the community by teaching local middle school students about the fundamentals of journalism.
Jadulang began her lesson with a playful twist, delivering a fake announcement about major changes at the school — including a new mascot and school colors. The creative approach grabbed students’ attention and set the stage for hands-on learning.
From there, students stepped into the role of reporters, working to uncover the who, what, when, where, why, and how behind the “story.” The exercise gave them a firsthand look at how journalists gather and verify information.
Jadulang also shared her own experiences in the newsroom, walking students through what a typical day looks like as a broadcast reporter. She offered practical advice while encouraging them to think critically, ask questions, and value accuracy in storytelling.
The interactive lesson blended fun with education, leaving students with a deeper appreciation for journalism and the work reporters do in their communities.
