Strong Winds Rip Roof Off Thousand Palms Home During Storm
Severe weather in the Coachella Valley last week left behind dramatic damage in Thousand Palms, where strong winds ripped the roof off a home in the Tri-Palms Estates community.
The metal-sheet roofing was completely peeled away by gusty winds during the storm, exposing the interior of the home. A resident told NBC Palm Springs that rain and wind continued to worsen the destruction, leaving the home unsafe to occupy.
“The fire captain told us to evacuate. He wouldn’t have his guys at all on that kind of roof. He said, get out as fast as you can. And we did,” the resident recalled. “Of course, it subsided. We came back. And then the second rain did not help.”
Water damage has since seeped into the home, forcing the family to remain evacuated until repairs can be made.
The latest storms have left residents across the Coachella Valley dealing with unexpected impacts. One Thousand Palms neighbor said, “People don’t expect it. We didn’t expect that at all. Everything’s intact. But when that wind comes through and then followed by water, it’s going to beat up anything. Nothing is going to withstand that.”
The family is waiting for roofing repairs before returning home.
