White House Pushes Back on Rumors About Trump’s Health

The White House is pushing back against speculation over President Donald Trump’s health after a weeklong absence from public events fueled rumors online.

On Tuesday, Trump appeared in the Oval Office to announce a new location for U.S. Space Command headquarters and brushed off suggestions that he was ill or had died. “It’s sort of crazy,” he told reporters. “A lot of people know I was very active this Labor Day.”

The rumors gained traction on social media after photos of recurring bruising on Trump’s hand resurfaced, along with earlier images showing swelling in his legs. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump is “perfectly fine and has a tremendous amount of energy,” calling the speculation “crazy and baseless.”

Trump’s physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, has previously said the president has chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition in older adults that causes swelling in the legs. The bruising on his hand was attributed to minor soft tissue irritation combined with aspirin use, which can increase bruising.

Multiple sources say Trump has long been self-conscious about the bruise, even using makeup to cover it during his campaign. Recently, he decided to stop concealing it. Emergency physician Dr. Megan Ranney told CNN the condition is “incredibly common” and not considered dangerous.

Despite the online speculation, Trump kept up a busy schedule over the holiday weekend, golfing in Virginia, giving an interview to the Daily Caller, and posting prolifically to Truth Social.

At 79 years old, Trump is the oldest person to be inaugurated as president. His health and stamina have been a frequent topic of debate, especially as both parties prepare for next year’s midterm elections.
