Alabama Man Arrested for Threats Against Orange County Church; Weapons, Ammo Found

An Alabama man has been arrested after allegedly making criminal threats against an Orange County church, with investigators later finding weapons and tactical gear in his vehicle.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said the investigation began on August 28 after receiving reports of suspicious and threatening emails directed at St. Michael’s Abbey, a church located on Silverado Canyon Road in the mountain community of Silverado.

Authorities say Joshua Michael Richardson first sent messages interpreted as threats, then later appeared in person at the Abbey, where he allegedly made additional threats that were reported by a priest.

Deputies later tracked Richardson to a parking structure near the Santa Monica Pier, about 60 miles from the church. He was taken into custody without incident.

Inside his vehicle, deputies discovered high-capacity ammunition magazines, brass knuckles, knives, and body armor, according to the sheriff’s department.

Officials emphasized the importance of community awareness in preventing potential violence. “While incidents like this can feel unsettling, they also highlight the power of community,” the department said. “If something seems off, say something. Trust your instincts and report suspicious activity.”
