Indio Becomes First Coachella Valley City to Earn State Pro-Housing Designation

The City of Indio has received the Pro-Housing Designation from the California Department of Housing and Community Development, making it the first municipality in the Coachella Valley and only the third in Riverside County to achieve this recognition.

The state designation acknowledges cities that demonstrate a commitment to accelerating housing production and promoting equitable community development. The program evaluates local policies and practices that streamline housing approval processes and remove barriers to development.

Benefits and Access

The designation provides Indio with several advantages in pursuing housing development projects:

  • Priority processing for state funding applications

  • Access to additional funding opportunities through multiple state housing programs

  • Enhanced incentives specifically targeting affordable housing development

  • Preferential consideration for state resources and technical assistance

Housing Development Focus

The Pro-Housing Designation recognizes municipalities that have implemented policies to expedite housing construction while addressing community equity concerns. Cities must demonstrate measurable progress in housing production and show commitment to developing affordable units.
