NBC’s The Paper Brings Office-Style Comedy to Peacock
Peacock is launching a fresh workplace comedy that may feel familiar to fans of NBC’s The Office. The Paper, debuting Thursday, trades a paper supply company for a struggling newspaper in Toledo, Ohio, but keeps the same mockumentary format and quirky workplace humor that made The Office a phenomenon.
The series follows Ned Sampson, the new editor-in-chief determined to breathe life into the daily paper and its offbeat staff. Shot in a documentary style, the show captures newsroom struggles with a mix of awkward encounters, offbeat one-liners, and satirical takes on journalism in today’s world.
Greg Daniels, who created the U.S. version of The Office, is also behind this new project. He’s recruited Oscar Nuñez, reprising his role as Oscar, to provide a direct connection between the two universes. Nuñez admitted he agreed to join the series before even hearing the pitch, eager to reconnect with Daniels and the mockumentary style.
The cast says stepping into this world has been refreshing, offering the same freedom to improvise and play that The Office once did. “It was very joyful to be back in that playful shooting style with such a talented group,” one cast member shared.
The Paper arrives as Peacock continues expanding its original programming lineup, leaning into proven formats and creative teams. With its mix of seasoned comedic actors, fresh faces, and a strong writer’s room, the series aims to capture the same kind of office-based humor while giving it a newsroom twist.
