Former President Biden Undergoes Skin Cancer Surgery Following Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

Former President Joe Biden recently underwent skin cancer surgery, marking his second cancer-related medical procedure in recent months, according to his personal office.

Biden received MOHS surgery, a specialized procedure that removes cancerous skin tissue layer by layer until all malignant cells are eliminated. The technique is commonly used to treat basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas, the most prevalent forms of skin cancer.

His office reports that Biden is recovering well from the procedure, though the exact date of the surgery has not been disclosed.

The skin cancer treatment follows Biden's May 2024 diagnosis of aggressive prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones. This recent surgery also comes after a 2023 procedure during his presidency, when doctors removed a cancerous lesion from his chest during a routine physical examination.

MOHS surgery offers high cure rates by allowing surgeons to examine tissue samples immediately during the procedure, ensuring complete removal of cancerous cells while preserving healthy surrounding tissue.
