Trump Signs Executive Order Implementing US-Japan Trade Agreement

President Trump signed an executive order Thursday officially implementing a trade agreement with Japan that reduces tariffs on Japanese automotive imports and other products.

The agreement, originally announced in July, was formalized between the US and Japan following months of negotiations between Trump and Japanese officials. The deal includes $550 billion in Japanese investment for US projects to be selected by the federal government.

Tariff relief on automotive parts will begin seven days after the executive order's signing, while additional tariff reductions are scheduled to take effect August 7th.

Under the agreement, Japan secures the lowest available US tariff rates on semiconductors and pharmaceuticals, along with elimination of tariffs on commercial aircraft and aircraft components.
