Nearly 70 Shipping Containers Fall from Cargo Ship at Port of Long Beach
A cargo mishap at the Port of Long Beach sent dozens of shipping containers into the water today.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, nearly 70 containers fell from the cargo ship Mississippi, scattering debris into the harbor. Cardboard boxes and other items could be seen bobbing in the water alongside the massive containers.
Workers used high-pressure water from a tugboat to prevent the cargo from drifting out to sea. A spokesperson for the Port of Long Beach said officials are now working to determine what caused the accident.
The Coast Guard has not reported any injuries, and environmental crews are monitoring the situation to ensure no further risks arise from the spill.
