Cathedral City Honors Outgoing City Manager with Key to the City

Cathedral City presented its key to the city to outgoing City Manager Charlie McClendon on Wednesday night, recognizing his 11 years of service to the community.

McClendon, who will conclude his tenure on September 19th, led several major municipal projects during his time as city manager. He spearheaded the construction of the Community Amphitheater and Esperanza Park, and directed the revitalization of the city's downtown area. Most recently, he guided Cathedral City through the challenges posed by Tropical Storm Hilary.

His departure will mark the end of a 47-year career in local government.

Assistant City Manager Anne Ambrose will serve as interim city manager beginning September 20th while the city council conducts a search for McClendon's permanent replacement. Ambrose joined Cathedral City's staff in 2023.
