Desert Hot Springs Police Identify Juvenile in School Threat Investigation

Desert Hot Springs police announced Sunday they have identified the person responsible for making social media threats against local schools, confirming the suspect is a juvenile.

The threats began last week targeting Desert Springs Middle School and escalated as the week progressed. The Desert Hot Springs Police Department determined the social media posts threatening violence were not credible following their investigation, but maintained an increased police presence at schools as a precautionary measure.

The Palm Springs Unified School District, which oversees Desert Springs Middle School, notified parents through a districtwide email about the situation when the threats first emerged on September 11th. Enhanced security measures, including additional police officers and security personnel, were implemented at Desert Hot Springs area schools throughout the week.

Despite police assessments that the threats lacked credibility, law enforcement continued their investigation to identify the source while ensuring student and staff safety through increased campus security presence.
