Federal Appeals Court Blocks Trump's Removal of Fed Governor Lisa Cook
A federal appeals court on Monday blocked President Trump's attempt to terminate Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors, allowing her to remain in her position pending further legal proceedings.
The emergency ruling represents another setback for Trump's efforts to exert greater control over the Federal Reserve, the nation's central banking system. Two weeks prior, Trump dismissed Cook citing allegations of mortgage fraud, though Cook has not been charged with any criminal wrongdoing related to these claims.
The court's decision came just hours before the Federal Reserve began its scheduled two-day monetary policy meeting, where the central bank's policymaking committee deliberates on interest rates and other economic measures.
