How They Shot Stephen King’s “The Long Walk”

The dystopian premise is intriguing and, well, creepy.  It’s a Stephen King adaptation after all.  A group of young men must walk (for glory, money, and in some twisted concept – to instill hope for mankind) and maintain a pace of at least 3 miles per hour to survive.  Walk under and you’ll get a warning.  The third warning means execution on the spot.

It’s a nail-biting movie made perfect by great performances from the young cast.  And then there’s Judy Greer, who I love interviewing.  She’s always sweet and funny and very sincere.  I met her in Palm Springs when she visited our station during the Palm Springs International Film Festival for “The Descendants.”  She fondly remembered that when I reminded her of our initial interview.

And now, many moons later, she plays the mom to Cooper Hoffman in Francis Lawrence’s “The Long Walk” based on Stephen King (under his pseudonym Richard Bachman in 1979).  In this interview, we talked about her interest in joining the cast, working with Hoffman, what she thinks of the young actors’ work ethics, and what she hopes for viewers to get after watching the film.

I enjoyed “The Long Walk” that I even call it one of the year’s best.

“The Long Walk” from Lionsgate is now out in theaters.
