Roadwork Projects Begin in Cathedral City and Rancho Mirage
Two major roadwork projects are now underway in the Coachella Valley, with Cathedral City and Rancho Mirage each launching improvements aimed at enhancing local infrastructure and safety.
In Cathedral City, construction begins September 18 along Whispering Palms Trail, stretching from Dinah Shore Drive to 30th Avenue. The work is part of the city’s bike route project and will continue through October. Granite Construction crews will work weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. While every effort will be made to maintain access to businesses and driveways, officials caution that temporary delays may occur. Emergency vehicles will have access at all times.
At the same time, Rancho Mirage is moving forward with its slurry seal project on Highway 111. Crews began today by closing one lane from the city’s western limits to Via Florencio. Later this week, two lanes will be closed along portions of Highway 111, with work continuing over the next two weeks. Drivers should expect intermittent lane restrictions, use caution in work zones, and plan alternate routes when possible to avoid congestion.
Both projects highlight ongoing efforts across the valley to improve road conditions, expand alternative transportation options, and ensure long-term infrastructure reliability. While short-term inconveniences are expected, city officials say the improvements will provide lasting benefits for residents, commuters, and local businesses.
