ABC has suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live indefinitely after backlash surrounding the late-night host’s remarks about the alleged killer of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

During his Monday monologue, Kimmel suggested the suspect might have been a pro-Trump Republican and criticized Republicans for their response to Kirk’s death. The comments drew sharp criticism and led to pressure on ABC to take action.

The network confirmed Tuesday that the show would be preempted “indefinitely” but declined to provide further details. The announcement came after Brendan Carr, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission and an appointee of President Donald Trump, said his agency could take action against Disney and ABC over Kimmel’s remarks. Carr suggested that ABC affiliate licenses could even be at risk if no action was taken.

President Trump celebrated the suspension on his Truth Social platform, writing in part: “Great news for America. The ratings-challenged Jimmy Kimmel show is canceled. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done.”

This marks the latest in a series of controversies involving late-night hosts and their political commentary, with Kimmel’s future on the network now uncertain.
