California Moves to Ban 'Forever Chemicals' in Kitchen Cookware

California lawmakers have taken a significant step toward banning PFAS, commonly known as "forever chemicals," from everyday cooking products like non-stick pans.

The bill, which recently passed the state legislature, is now on Governor Gavin Newsom's desk awaiting his signature. If signed, California would begin phasing out these controversial chemicals from consumer products over the next several years.

PFAS chemicals are widely used to make cookware non-stick and water-resistant, but environmental and health experts warn they don't break down naturally and are increasingly found in water sources, food chains, and even human bodies.

The proposed timeline would ban PFAS in food packaging and plastic foodware by 2028, followed by cookware containing these chemicals by 2030.
