Man Found Guilty in Attempted Assassination of Donald Trump on Florida Golf Course
A Florida jury has found Ryan Routh guilty on all charges in connection with the attempted assassination of Donald Trump during a round of golf last year. The verdict came after just two and a half hours of deliberations.
Routh, who represented himself at trial, was convicted of attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate, assaulting a Secret Service agent, and three separate federal firearms violations tied to the September 2024 incident. Prosecutors said Routh set up a “sniper’s nest” near the sixth green of Trump International Golf Club but was stopped before he could fire a shot.
Following the reading of the verdict, Routh reportedly attempted to stab himself in the neck with a pen inside the courtroom. Officers quickly intervened and prevented him from causing serious harm.
Throughout the proceedings, Routh maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to all counts. Despite his defense, the jury found the evidence against him overwhelming.
He now faces a potential life sentence when he returns to court for sentencing.
