Sean Combs Legal Team Seeks Leniency Ahead of Sentencing
Lawyers for Sean Combs are requesting a lenient sentence ahead of the music mogul's scheduled October 3rd sentencing hearing on prostitution-related charges.
The defense team argued Monday that Combs should receive no more than 14 months in prison, citing his acquittal on the most serious charges in the case. The 55-year-old has been held at a Brooklyn detention facility since September.
If the judge accepts the defense recommendation, Combs would be released less than two months after sentencing. However, prosecutors are seeking a significantly longer sentence, indicating they want more than the federal sentencing guideline minimum of four years and three months.
Prior to sentencing, the court will consider a defense motion to vacate the jury's verdict. Combs' legal team argues he should not have been prosecuted under the Mann Act, a federal law that prohibits transportation across state lines for prostitution purposes.
