Coachella Valley Water District offers Help to Others program for past-due bills
Water Wise Wednesday, brought to you by the Coachella Valley Water District, focused this week on a financial assistance program designed to help families struggling to pay their water bills. Lorraine Garcia, communications manager for CVWD, joined to explain how the Help to Others program works.
The program provides a $150 credit once every 12 months for qualifying customers who have past-due bills. To manage the process, CVWD has partnered with Inland SoCal United Way, which screens applicants and provides the payment assistance directly to water accounts.
Customers seeking help can dial 211 to connect with Inland SoCal United Way or apply online at cvwd.org/helptoothers. Donations to support the program are also accepted through the same site.
Garcia noted that any fees or arrangements related to overdue balances are addressed during the screening process, ensuring customers get the most out of the assistance. She emphasized that the program is designed to keep water accessible for residents during difficult financial times.
For those outside CVWD’s service area, other local water agencies also participate in the Help to Others program, offering similar support.
“If you need help with that past due water bill, please apply,” Garcia said, encouraging residents to take advantage of the resource.
