Holiday Calendar and Pop Quiz: Chewing Gum, Olive Oil, Podcasts, and a McCartney Backstage Pass

Today’s Holiday Calendar and Pop Quiz, brought to you by One Coachella Valley, mixes a little music nostalgia with some fun national observances.

The day started with a look back at the Paul McCartney concert at Acrisure Arena, where a backstage pass offered a close-up encounter with the music legend. That unforgettable moment came thanks to longtime friend Alan Anders, who works with AEG.

On the calendar side, September 30 brings National Chewing Gum Day, honoring the invention of modern gum in the 1800s; International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Day, celebrating the health benefits of first cold-pressed oil; National Podcast Day, a nod to how audio storytelling has moved into the digital age; and National Mud Pack Day, a chance to relax with a facial treatment — cucumbers optional.

The pop quiz tied in perfectly, starting with a question about Roger Mudd, the CBS journalist once considered to succeed Walter Cronkite. The answer? Dan Rather took the anchor’s chair in 1980. A second music-themed question asked about the 1971 album “Mudslide Slim and the Blue Horizon.” The correct response was James Taylor, who recorded “You’ve Got a Friend” on that record — though Carole King also released the song around the same time.

From music memories to trivia, today’s segment offered a little something for everyone — and a reminder to celebrate the lighter side of life.
