Trump Shares Racist AI-Generated Video of Schumer and Jeffries Amid Shutdown Talks
As the United States edges closer to a government shutdown, President Donald Trump has sparked outrage by sharing a racist, AI-generated video targeting top Democratic leaders.
The video, posted on both his X account and Truth Social, depicts House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries wearing a sombrero and mustache, while Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is shown speaking in a fake voice. The AI-generated Schumer argues for undocumented immigrants to receive “free healthcare” and claims minority voters dislike Democrats. Mariachi music plays in the background of the clip.
The post came just hours after Trump met with Jeffries and Schumer at the White House to discuss federal funding. That meeting, which also included Senate Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson, ended without a compromise. Government funding is set to expire at midnight Tuesday.
Jeffries responded on X, writing, “Bigotry will get you nowhere. Cancel the Cuts. Lower the Cost. Save Healthcare. We are NOT backing down.” Schumer added, “If you think your shutdown is a joke, it just proves what we all know: You can’t negotiate. You can only throw tantrums.”
Democrats are demanding that any funding measure extend Affordable Care Act subsidies, which are set to expire at the end of the year. Republicans are pushing for a clean funding bill without additional provisions.
Jeffries emphasized the stakes, warning that more than 20 million Americans could face steep increases in premiums, co-pays, and deductibles if the subsidies are not extended. “Working-class Americans, their health care, that’s what we’re fighting to preserve, to defend and to strengthen,” he said.
The video underscores the tense political climate as both sides blame one another for the impending shutdown.
