Trump Teases 2028 With Hat Displayed During Shutdown Talks
While congressional leaders met Tuesday to try to avert a government shutdown, President Donald Trump shifted attention online. On his Truth Social account, Trump posted photos from his desk showing a “Trump 2028” hat, a move many interpreted as a tease of a possible third-term bid.
Trump has previously stated he will leave the White House at the end of his second term without attempting to extend his stay. Still, the images of the hat, placed prominently in view, immediately sparked conversation and speculation.
The posts came as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries met with Trump to negotiate a deal to keep the government funded. The talks, however, ended without progress, leaving the looming shutdown unresolved.
The photos served as a distraction from the stalemate, underscoring both the tension of the negotiations and Trump’s knack for seizing attention even in the middle of high-stakes discussions.

UPDATE: The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department have confirmed that one person has died and another two were injured after a home explosion on Ocotillo Rd in Twentynine Palms. Security camera video from a nearby neighbor captured the dramatic blast around 8:28 p.m., followed by a fire that brought a massive emergency response from fire and law enforcement agencies across the Morongo Basin. The burning structure has been confirmed as a residence at 6427 Ocotillo Ave. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation and the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Arson/Bomb Detail team is conducting the investigation.
