Who Will Be Crowned 'The Kings of Cook Street' Under the Friday Night Lights?

The stage is set for one of the Desert Empire League’s most intense matchups as Xavier Prep hosts Palm Desert on Friday night, a game that carries more than just standings implications. At stake: local bragging rights and the unofficial title of The Kings of Cook Street.

Last season, Palm Desert controlled the rivalry, shutting out Xavier 24–0. But this year’s meeting has a different tone. Xavier enters the game with renewed momentum, led by quarterback Kingston Pellum, whose dual-threat ability has sparked a balanced offensive attack. He’s already tallied nine rushing touchdowns and six through the air, supported by receivers who can stretch the field and keep defenses honest.

Palm Desert counters with its own standout quarterback, AJ Rivera, who has been just as productive. He enters the game with 12 passing touchdowns and more than 200 rushing yards in his most recent outing — a clear sign that the Aztecs remain a serious threat on both sides of the ball.

But for fans on Cook Street, Friday’s game is about more than records. It’s about local pride, and who walks away with the crown.
