Trump made the statement Sunday during remarks celebrating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Navy, telling the crowd that his book included a prediction about bin Laden’s role in future attacks. “I wrote about Osama bin Laden exactly one year before he blew up the World Trade Center,” Trump said. “You’ve got to watch Osama bin Laden.”

However, the only mention of bin Laden in the book refers to him briefly as “a shadowy figure with no fixed address named Osama bin Laden” — acknowledging that he was already considered a major threat and had been targeted by U.S. forces under President Bill Clinton. There is no suggestion in the text that Trump offered any foresight or warning about bin Laden’s actions.

While Trump did write that the U.S. was at risk of future terrorist attacks, he did not link those attacks to bin Laden or provide any unique insight. His claim that he specifically warned about the al-Qaeda leader has been repeatedly debunked since 2015.

The book was ghostwritten by journalist Dave Shiflett and published in January 2000, more than a year before the September 11 attacks. Trump has continued to cite it as evidence of his supposed foresight despite documented proof to the contrary.

Fact-checkers note that while Trump correctly predicted that the U.S. could face future terrorist attacks, his book contained no reference suggesting that bin Laden was the mastermind behind any of them.
