Student Bit by Rattlesnake on Playground at Gerald Ford Elementary School

This afternoon, a student was bit by a rattlesnake on the playground during lunch recess.

According to Desert Sands Unified School District officials, staff members responded immediately, calling 911 and moving the student and another child nearby to the school office for safety. The student was then transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The playground was cleared and remained closed for the rest of the day while pest control teams inspected the area.

District officials say the quick response by school staff helped prevent further injuries and that safety remains their top priority.
