AI Learning Assistant Launching in California University Classrooms

An artificial intelligence platform called edYOU is rolling out to California schools and universities as a digital learning tool designed to help students study more efficiently.

The AI-powered chatbot provides instant feedback, tutoring support, and personalized lesson summaries tailored to individual student needs. Unlike consumer AI platforms, edYOU operates as a closed-loop system that draws from verified academic curriculum approved by educators rather than open internet data.

Dr. Michael Everest, the platform's creator, says edYOU aligns with classroom instruction and individual teacher curricula. The system generates study materials, test preparation, and summaries based on each instructor's specific syllabus and lesson plans.

"That flipped classroom aspect empowers the student more to go to the classroom feeling that they know what they're talking about," Everest said.

The rollout comes days after Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 243 into law, which requires companies offering chatbots—including major platforms like OpenAI's ChatGPT—to implement safety measures. The law mandates monitoring for signs of self-harm or suicidal ideation and directing users to mental health resources when needed.

EdYOU is currently being tested in pilot programs at several universities, including Sierra Canyon University.
