New Indio Library Opens After Two-Year Construction

The City of Indio opened a new 7,000-square-foot library facility Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The project, which began design work two years ago, cost $10 million to complete. The state contributed $4.6 million toward the total cost, according to Indio Councilmember Oscar Ortiz.

The library provides book and media rentals, computer access, and space for community engagement events.

"Library systems are one of the last safety nets that we have," said Riverside County Fourth District Supervisor V. Manuel Perez at the opening ceremony. "They seem to be going away little by little, but I do think that our library system is one safety net that I hope will never go away."

The facility is now open to the public at its location off 200 Civic Center Drive, Indio.
