Cathedral City Seeks New City Manager, Public Input Requested
Cathedral City is accepting applications for its next City Manager and has opened a community survey for residents to help shape the selection criteria.
The position became vacant following Charlie McClendon's retirement in September after 11 years leading the city. McClendon's tenure included overseeing construction of the Community Amphitheater and Esperanza Park, downtown revitalization efforts, and the city's response to Tropical Storm Hilary. Assistant City Manager Anne Ambrose has served as interim City Manager since September 20.
The City Manager oversees daily operations for Cathedral City's population of over 52,000 residents, directing approximately 230 employees across departments including Police, Fire, Public Works, Code Enforcement, Planning, and Economic Development. The position manages a fiscal year 2025/26 General Fund budget of nearly $76 million.
Residents can participate in the selection process through an online survey.
Candidates can apply here with a filing deadline of November 16, 2025.
